Springs Hwange National Park |
|
Giraffe Springs is one of
the few camps located in a private area within Hwange National
Park. These few private camps have breathed new life and
freshness into the Hwange experience for guests who are looking
for that special, more isolated wildlife experience. Access into
the camp is by air, so our guest get a "bird's-eye view"
of the park and the Giraffe Springs area on the way in. The camp
is situated south~west of Main Camp and south~south~east of
Sinamatella Camp. Giraffe Springs overlooks one of the park's
large pans and waterholes, which usually holds rain water
naturally for most of the year. When the waterhole dries up, we
pump water to help the animal survive the long dry winter season.
This ensures that there is great animal activity in front of the
camp. Game viewing starts right in front of your room.
Accomodation
Ten large
tented rooms, each with its own en suite bathroom and private
viewing platform, overlook the plains and the waterhole in front
of the camp. Each of these tented rooms is large and airy with
wonderful views. You can lie in your bed and look out onto the
surrounding plains to watch the passing animal parade. Each room
also has its own outdoor raised viewing platform so guests can
enjoy game viewing from their rooms during the quieter midday
"sietsa" hours. The main living area is under cool
thatch and includes a dining room, a lounge, an indoor and an
outdoor raised game viewing platform and a small plunge pool.
Activities and
wildlife
Hwange is big game country. Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and
all the plains game are regularly seen close to camp. Two of the
area's "specials" include Roan and Sable Antelope ~
possibly the most beautiful of all the antelope. Rhino are
sometimes seen. Game drives are enjoyed in open 4x4 Land Rovers.
Walks with an armed and licensed guide are part of the Giraffe
Springs experience ~ coupled with visits to hides so that guests
are able to enjoy close~up game viewing.
