What
we do with any sponsorship money:
The
International Conferences in Africa for Comparative Physiology and
Biochemistry are run on a non-profit basis with all funds being
returned to the meeting in some fashion.
The
Executive Committee offer a priori no financial support
to non-indigenous delegates.
The
Mara 2008 meeting continues the important core objective of
encouraging and supporting indigenous African delegates to attend
and interact with their international colleagues. The meeting also
aims to interest international delegates in working in Africa, on
African problems and together with local researchers. For many indigenous
delegates this meeting represents a special and unique opportunity.
To make this happen the Executive Committee frequently needs to supply
financial support. For example at Chobe 2001, seven such delegates
were supported and at Ithala 2004 eight.
Consequently
any funding obtained by the executive committee from charitable
and other sponsors is directed towards supporting the attendance
of indigenous delegates and graduate students from the region. These
funds are matched by a contribution from the Safari operations of
Natural Events. Thus if you are considering touring before or after
the meeting please consider using N.E. since this will be of direct
assistance and not simply profit to an agent.
By
this reasoning we see the attendance of International Delegates
at these CPB in Africa meetings as an opportunity to contribute
to the enhancement of science in Africa and to the support of otherwise
disenfranchised colleagues and students in the region. We appreciate
any small contributions you may make to this fund - which can appear
as part of your registration fee. Small contributions are also made,
funds being available, to student prizes and publication of the
conference volume.
